Veryant is proud to announce the newest release of isCOBOL, isCOBOL APS 2009 SP2. The latest version of isCOBOL APS includes enhancements to the 100 percent Java-based isCOBOL JISAM file system, improvements to isCOBOL Server thin client computing, as well as additions to isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0, software used to deliver rich Internet applications (RIA) through a zero client, browser-based deployment model.
isCOBOL APS 2009 SP2 includes several new advances:
- isCOBOL JISAM
isCOBOL JISAM is a 100%
isCOBOL JISAM runs on a range of platforms, from mainframes to handheld devices. In this release, isCOBOL JISAM has been enhanced to support larger file sizes and has demonstrated up to 50%
faster performance on certain workloads.
- isCOBOL Server (thin client and distributed computing)
In the 2009 SP2 release, thin client performance has been improved, especially for applications that utilize common DESTROY statements (to eliminate graphical elements such as windows, screens, fonts, layout managers, and menus that are no longer in use) and for applications accessing clients across the Internet or other bandwidth constrained TCP/IP connections.
- isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0
isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0 enables the delivery of rich Internet applications through a zero client, browser-based deployment model using standard COBOL screen section management techniques, existing procedure division and flow. In this release, a compile option has been added to isCOBOL to flag the incompatibilities of an existing application with the supported controls and properties of isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0. This option presents a clear picture of what controls and screen programs may require modification for successful isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0 deployment. The ability to embed JavaScript programming directly into COBOL source code as well as support for several new controls in Web Direct 2.0 was also added in the 2009 SP2 release.
- Improved compatibility with COBOL alternatives
Several updates were including in the 2009 SP2 release to make moving to isCOBOL from alternative platforms even easier. The ACUCOBOL-GT® SET ENVIRONMENT "KEYSTROKE" statement is now supported, simplifying transitions from ACUCOBOL-GT. Users who rely on the COBOL report writer to define and produce lists, reports, and displayed summaries from COBOL data will now find COBOL REPORT SECTION syntax supported in the 2009 SP2 release. For users who prefer to leverage an external sort utility for isCOBOL files, support for external sort modules such as CoSort has also been added in the isCOBOL APS 2009 SP2 release.
Details on other advances in isCOBOL APS 2009 SP2 can be found in the
isCOBOL APS 2009 SP2 Release Overview.
