Veryant Delivers Choice and Cost Savings to COBOL Community

Veryant is proud to announce its newest release, isCOBOL APS 2010 R1. The sixth isCOBOL product update in two years, isCOBOL 2010 R1 includes several enhancements to its integrated development environment (IDE), thin client server, and innovative rich Internet application (RIA) development capabilities.

isCOBOL APS 2010 R1 includes several new advances:

• isCOBOL IDE
  

  ·	Support was added for Eclipse Galileo, so developers taking advantage of the latest Eclipse updates can develop and debug COBOL and Java programs in the same framework.
  ·	Debugging capabilities, such as the ability to show the Variables and Breakpoints View by default in debug mode, were added to the IDE.
  ·	A ‘quick preview’ capability was added so that RIA application GUIs developed using isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0 can now be viewed inside of the IDE by the click of a button.



• isCOBOL Server (thin client and distributed computing)
  isCOBOL Server can now run as a Windows Service on Windows-based servers so it can be installed as a service, started up automatically, and run in the background.



• isCOBOL Web Direct 2.0
  With the 2010 R1 release, developers can use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) styles for GUI controls to customize screens for targeted mobile devices and browsers.



• isCOBOL ESQL Generator
  isCOBOL ESQL Generator users can now access multiple RDBMS connections such as Oracle database and MySQL in the same program. Different connections can be on the same database, on different versions of databases from the same family (e.g. Oracle), or on different databases of different families (e.g. Oracle and MySQL).



• isCOBOL SQL Server
  ISAM files created by COBOL programs can be instantly accessed as database tables without manual intervention with isCOBOL 2010 R1. This feature simplifies a developer's ability to take full advantage of functions such as executing custom SQL statements and complex queries with existing ISAM files.



• Print preview
  The print preview window has been fully redesigned so that developers can use and customize settings such as window size, default zoom level, default aliasing and default messages in the print preview dialog box.



• Diagnostics
  Additional trace level capabilities have been added so that users can show key values and record data on read/writes for isCOBOL JISAM and other data file sources.



• Expanded Linux on System z functionality
  Support has been added to allow isCOBOL to call C functions and for isCOBOL to be called from C in Linux on System z environments.



• Enhanced ACUCOBOL-GT® compatibility
  Support has been added for the W$KEYBUF routine (opcodes 1, 2, 3 and 9), a routine that allows a program to simulate user input, as well as Ctrl+A - Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+0 - Ctrl+9 exception keys to simplify the move from ACUCOBOL-GT to isCOBOL.
