Veryant’s isCOBOL Technology and Student Program Encourage a New Generation of COBOL Professionals
BRIVI Latin America begins partnership with University Federal of São Carlos
Phoenix - July 21, 2008 - BRIVI Latin America, the leading distributor of Veryant’s isCOBOL technology in Latin America, today announced that it has signed an agreement with the University Federal of São Carlos (UFSCAR) to provide isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (isCOBOL APS) development tools for all of its computer science courses.

Veryant software lets enterprises retain valuable COBOL application assets by blending COBOL with the openness, portability, and power of the Java platform, without retraining staff or rewriting code. isCOBOL APS provides a complete environment to develop, deploy, and modernize COBOL applications.

“This partnership marks the first step in the BRIVI Latin America program to encourage updated COBOL offerings in educational institutions. We offer development tools and the assurance that through them, students will gain greater opportunities in the COBOL market,” said Danilo Oliveira, Brazil manager, BRIVI. “For BRIVI, this is the beginning of a partnership for success with the UFSCAR.”

BRIVI’s educational project, called the “BRIVI Student Program,” has as four main objectives:
  • encourage and modernize COBOL use in educational institutions;
  • conduct lectures, seminars, and workshops on COBOL technology in conjunction with universities;
  • inform students of the realities of the COBOL language in the labor market;
  • educate professionals new to the COBOL market.
With strong financial services, manufacturing and government sectors, Brazil has historically been a market with a large COBOL installed base. BRIVI’s Student Program is another example of how isCOBOL technology provides choice and strategic value to the COBOL community.
