GUI improvements and theming
isCOBOL Evolve 2025 R2 integrates a new FlatLaf LAF to update the Look-and-Feel of your applications with several different color schemes (Light, Dark, IntelliJ, Darcula).
The tree-view and list-box controls now support a rollover effect that can be used to customize the colors when the mouse hovers over those controls.
Tab controls now support hints for the page title, and an icon that can be used to close a page.
WebClient and Java 21 support
The newest release of WebClient features an upgraded embbeded servlet container, using Jetty 12 when running on Java 17+, and Tomcat when running on earlier Java versions.
This release allows specific applications to be preloaded on startup to minimize latency and increase responsiveness, and allows the Cluster Server to share the same Java process as the Session Pool.
Pinch gestures on touchscreen devices are now supported and can be used to zoom in and out of the application user interface.
Updated Microsoft Visual Studio Code extension
The new release of the Veryant Microsoft Visual Studio Code extension adds workspace support that lets developers group projects residing in different folders into a multi-project workspace. Each folder can have its own compiler and runtime settings.
This feature can be used if projects need to be compiled using different isCOBOL SDKs or Java versions, or using different compiler options.
A new toggle in the editor user interface allows choosing between Debug or Release compilation, and mode-specific options can be configured in the Visual Studio Code settings.
The debugger can now attach a debug session to a remote program by specifying an IP address and port number in the launch configuration settings.
Debugging in dark mode
The new 2025 R2 debugger supports dark mode using the new FlatLaf support, and can change LAF on the fly.
Dark mode is useful to reduce eye strain, improve focus, and reduce energy usage on OLED or AMOLED displays.
Other enhancements
The Eclipse-based isCOBOL IDE has been improved by expanding type of files that can be imported from the command line, and has an improved screen painter for developers who prefer to work using a mouse.
The GIFE utility supports conditions with TABLENAME syntax in the EFD WHEN directive, and has a new button that lists the table names.
The profiler can now be configured to include or exclude specific paragraphs, improving readability of the output.
Details on these and additional features can be found in the isCOBOL Evolve 2025
